12U Post 290 Bombers Win NSA Fastpitch World Series Championship

On Saturday, July 14th, the American Legion Post 290 Bombers 12U softball team emerged victorious and raised the 2018 NSA World Series Championship trophy - the first World Series championship earned by any Stafford team, baseball or softball - after winning 6 of 7 games over the 3-day tournament, and outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 46-19.

Mackenzie Riley, Madelyn Chambers, Madison Dillard, Lana Franklin, Abigail Morris and Emily Morgan led the offensive juggernaut collecting multiple hits while Kaley Haydon and Nadia Finley were terrors on the basepaths, enabling the Bombers to average more than 6.5 runs per game.  Equally impressive was the defensive effort as outfielders Miranda Preston, Morris, and Riley ran down balls in the gaps to save runs while infielders Dillarrd, Franklin, Catie Alley and Chambers played suffocating defense behind pitcher Maddie Smith, who struck out 24 batters.  The overall defensive effort, led by catcher Emily Morgan,  who threw out 5 runners attemptiong to steal, effectively shut down opposing offenses and holding them to an average of 2.7 runs per game.

Congratulations, ladies, on a successful season and an outstanding tournament performance!
