Q: I am related to someone who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibilty dates. Can I join the Auxiliary of The American Legion?
A: If your relative who served on active duty during one of the membership eligibility dates and is a member of The American Legion, you may join the American Legion Auxiliary of The American Legion.
However, if the qualifying veteran is deceased you may join the appropriate organization, even if the qualifying veteran was not a member of The American Legion when living.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 290 participates in the Spring Conference, March 1-3, 2019, in Portsmouth Virginia. Distinguished guests are led to the podium by Frances Shelton, escorting Thomas Quick, Department Commander. National Commander Brett Reistad, escorted by Susan Lee. John Milburn National Vice Commander, was escorted by Margaret Dillinger. All escorts were former Department Auxiliary Presidents. Department Auxiliary President Rose Moore, welcomed the special guest. Kathy Dungan, National Auxiliary President was also introduced.
Past Department Auxiliary Presidents, Frances Shelton, Post 290, and Susan Lee, Post 55, are from the Fredericksburg/Stafford area.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 290 Scholarships
Each year, the American Legion Auxiliary Stafford Unit 290 awards the Stafford Unit 290 Scholarship, a $1000 award, to a graduating senior from each Stafford County High School. Eligibility criteria and application forms are published on this website and are available through the high school guidance counselors in January. After reviewing the applications, the scholarship committee will select the winners and award the scholarships at each applicable high school's Senior Awards Night.
Additional scholarships are also available through Department and National affiliations. The Department of Virginia American Legion Auxiliary offers the following scholarships:
